Two Homeless Men Found Dead In Under 24 Hours
A homeless man has been found dead in Temple Bar. The body of the 38-year-old was found on Adare Lane in the city centre at 2am.
Gardai say they are not treating his death as suspicious.
Inner City Councillor Christy Burke says he may have been dead for some time. "The person who found him had been with the man at 11 o'clock, and the man appeared to be asleep."
"The guy came back at 2am and tried to get a pulse and couldn't so called an ambulance, so it's possible the man had been dead since at least 11 o'clock", he said.
Meanwhile, a 23 year old homeless man was found unconscious in Drogheda at a quarter to ten last night, he was later pronounced dead in hospital.
Anthony Flynn from Inner City Helping Homeless believes the deaths could have been avoided, and questioned why homeless people - who were taken in during Storm Ophelia - were put back out on the streets again.
"We were able to put systems in place while the storm was active, so what we need is a cohesive plan from government to open up the 200 promised beds by Christmas".
