An all-female comedy line-up will open Electric Picnic next summer. Organisers have announced a show that will be staged for 5,000 early entry campers the night before the festival opens.
Bosses hope it will "bring more gender balance to the festival", after they noticed a lack of female comedians on line-ups.
The line-up includes Joanne Mc Nally MC, Aoife Dooley, Lisa Casey, Sharon Mannion and Grace Mulvey.
The idea was born from a chance meeting at this year’s festival between Festival Director Melvin Benn and Emily O’Callaghan, a sometime stand up comedian.
Melvin Benn, Festival Director, said "The Thursday night will have incredible meaning as well as incredible comedians".
