Drinks Industry Draws Criticism From Campaigners
The drinks industry has been accused of "ferocious lobbying" in an effort to water down measures in the Public Health Alcohol Bill.
A number of public health experts, the Union of Students in Ireland, and the Rape Crisis Network have all directed their criticism towards the industry.
Retailers are opposed to a measure that means alcohol must be displayed in a separate space from other products.
Speaking on the need for such a measure, campaigner Jullian Van Tourhout says it should ensure "you make a very deliberate decision when you're buying alcohol. You shouldn't be able to pick up the alcohol when you're buying nappies/chocolate where you just buy it at the last moment"
The bill goes to committee stage in the Seanad this week.
