Decathlon To Create Up To 100 Jobs In Ballymun
French low-cost sports retailer Decathlon is opening an Irish store in Ballymun.
Up to 100 jobs could be created when the shop launches near IKEA.
Dublin City Council is to sell the Ballymun site to Decathlon for €4.5m and there are calls to ring fence that money for the development of Ballymun.
Local TD Noel Rock says he also wants the local authority to set criteria for the development which could compel the company to hire locally.
“While this type of large retail shop isn’t necessarily suited to Ballymun Shopping Centre, the €4.5m recouped from this sale absolutely must be ring fenced for the Ballymun area, for the development of local infrastructure and for vital local amenities which councillors all too often say we don’t have the funding for."
