At Least 35 Dead Following Bridge Collapse In Italy
At least 35 people are now said to have died in yesterday's bridge collapse in Italy.
Rescue workers are continuing the search for survivors at the site in Genoa.
Last night, firefighters said seven people had been pulled alive from the rubble.
The search efforts continued overnight, with 300 firefighters having taken part in the operation yesterday.
In social media posts this morning, Interior Minister Matteo Salvini confirmed the death toll had risen to 35.
He said that three children - aged 8, 12 and 13 - are among those killed.
More than a dozen others were injured when the section of viaduct collapsed, bringing dozens of vehicles down with it.
Investigators are now working to establish what caused the bridge to come down.
Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said that a repeat of the deadly collapse must not happen elsewhere.
He explained: "It's necessary that the maintenance is even more strict, and the checks even more punctual and rigorous.
"We must prevent such tragedies from happening - all citizens should be able to travel safely, and we will work to prevent this from happening again."
